When you book a birthday party at the zoo, you have the option to add a behind-the-scenes Animal Encounter for your birthday child!

Porcupine Encounter: Meet our friendly African Crested Porcupines up close! Willow and Franklin may be prickly, but they are extremely sweet & curious, especially when snacks are involved! Help our keeper prepare food for these unique rodents, watch a training session, and even enter their habitat to feed them sweet potatoes and other treats! Finish up by taking some spikey selfies, and leave with a porcupine quill, an “I Heart Franklin” button, and an amazing story to tell!

All participants must be at least 8 years old and accompanied by an adult at all times. Participation is up to the animals, and we cannot guarantee that all guests will have the same opportunities to interact with our porcupines.

Black Dragon Encounter: Experience the speed, power, and intelligence of one of Earth’s largest lizards firsthand. Help our keepers prepare food for Toothless, the Asian Water Monitor, and learn all about these magnificent predators as you help feed him from tongs and accompany him on a walk through the zoo! Grab some photos of you and this modern-day dinosaur and don’t forget your “Certified Dragon Trainer” button!

Snake Encounter: Learn all about our scaly friends when you meet three species of snakes that call The Learning Zoo home! Discover how snakes move through forests, deserts, and even oceans… all without legs! Learn about their scales, tongues, muscles, and how helpful they can be to us! Finish your journey by meeting Apollo, our 11 foot Reticulated Python, and get your photo with the longest snake species on Earth! You will also receive a snakeskin necklace to carry the memories you make!

Animal encounters at The Learning Zoo require that participants be able to follow directions and act safely around animals, including those that are potentially dangerous when startled.
The Learning Zoo reserves the right to postpone or reschedule this experience in the event of natural disaster, hazardous weather conditions, or for the safety and health of the animals.
In the event of a cancellation, every effort will be made to reschedule your experience for a later date.
Birthday Animal Encounters must be booked in conjunction with an on-site birthday party, are limited to the birthday child and their immediate family.
The encounter will take place in the first 30 minutes of your party time slot (example; 10-10:30) before the rest of your guests arrive.
